Okanogan Country is home to a vast array of artist, musicians and writers.
You will find galleries with Western Art, Native American artwork, sculpture,
woodworking, murals depicting life and history, even painted hydrants
and telephone pole art.
If theater is your love, the Omak Performing Arts Center provides a
560-seat venue for local talent as well as drawing a variety of professional
performers and events from folk concerts to ballet, cowboy poetry and
Broadway musicals.
Performing arts range from a classical orchestra and choral group to
colorful Native American dancing and drumming, a highlight of the Omak
Stampede and World-Famous Suicide Race. The Merc Playhouse and the Methow
Valley Community Theater also provide musicals, dramas, comedies and
more.
The Methow Music Festival allows visitors to enjoy wonderful music in
the summer meadows near Mazama. Many writers and poets live in this
area as well, so make sure to look at the calendar of events to see
what's happening when you visit. Local coffee shops, galleries and brewing
companies often host reading, live music and the ever-popular open-mike
night.
