We've been around the valley for 12 years and have seen the Freestone in good times and not so good times. We can say that now is very much in the good times category.
The Freestone is located in a special place in the world. One of the most beautiful places on the planet. Just look out the window of the dining room as the sun sets on the Methow. The quality of light is amazing in this valley.
We also can say that the new management team is doing a fantastic job. The bar manager, Amy for instance, has all the chops of any craft bar queen in Seattle, or New York for that matter, building great, creative cocktails from top quality spirits and local ingredients.
So that said, we sat down to dinner yesterday and for the prices this place charges, anticipated a great experience. We started with solid cocktails, (yeah! - check out the Happy Hour there - seriously) and had the Vegetable soup, Italian Mac and cheese and the scallops. All solid and well crafted - think good enough to play into a five star review, God forbid I ever do one of those.
So what's keeping this from five? Great location, great cocktails, great food...well, it's about timing. Timing is everything. The place has not traditionally had great timing in terms of ordering and arriving food. Some previous experiences there were epic, and not in a good way. Things are better, much better now, but seriously, let's get it right and be done with the past. Make timing a strength. Get food out on time. No parents having to take their toddlers out on the lawn to entertain them while they wait. No more wondering if the food will arrive at all. So much going for this place and we all want to see it succeed. We'll be back to check on you...Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for the review, and your honesty. I agree, that at times we struggle with ticket times. We hope to be making some changes soon to correct many of those issues. Please let us know how we do on your next visit!

This is the third time my husband and I have had a wonderful dinner at the Freestone Inn. I really enjoy the view of the lake and the mountains behind it, pretty hard to beat that view! And the service is always excellent. I had the 8oz Prime Rib with the mashed potatoes and asparagus. This was without a doubt the best cut of Prime Rib I have ever had, I didn't even need a knife to slice it. And the mashed potatoes were incredible. My husband had the Asian Short Ribs and that was also top notch. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five was that I wasn't as excited about the menu choices during this visit, and the table next to us was somewhat rude, at one point all four of them were on their cell phones. All in all this is the best place we have found to dine while in the Methow Valley.
We also had breakfast at the Freestone and I must say that it took me a long time to decide what I was going to have, everything on the menu sounded really good. The waitress suggested the Cinnamon Roll French Toast so I went that, and my husband had the Belgium Waffle, both were superb. The waffle had a chantilly butter over the top that was to die for, and my Cinnamon Roll was even better than the ones you get on the corner in Winthrop, which is quite an accomplishment!! The bacon and potatoes were great, 5 star breakfast! We had to go walk around all of their trails to work it off, which was enjoyable.
The cabins are very nice to stay in and reasonably priced as well. We will be back!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Very cute place for a nice brunch or dinner. We had brunch and everything was excellent, even though it was a fairly limited menu. The highlight is the BEAUTIFUL view of the lake and surrounding mountains! You MUST get a table at the window to really appreciate this place. I can't wait to come back during the summer to enjoy a drink on their large back patio in the oversized chairs by the fire pits!

We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday. Great service by Lexie and everyone is very friendly. We had the crab cakes and the pork belly. Both were great appetizers, but the pork belly was my favorite. The halibut special was good, the jambalaya was spicy and yummy, the duck was excellent, and the chicken biscuit stew was good. The peach crisp and flourless chocolate cake were both devoured. Oh and don't forget the huckleberry mules - very tasty!!! I don't know if I'll ever be back to Mazama, but if you're here be sure to eat here!

This dinning experence and the quality of cuisine is among the finest!
Other then 1 or 2 mosquitos buzzing while dinning outside, it was a perfect evening. Citronelli candles and a couple traps and that would be solved...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for the review, and the suggestions! We will look into whether or not we can have outdoor candles during our fire ban season, which is the entire summer.

My mom and I stayed here in early October. We attended the Winemaker's Dinner, and everything was wonderful.
My mom has gluten allergies. I emailed ahead of time, to see if any small changes could be made to her dinner...rice instead of pasta, for example.
I got a quick response that upon check in, Chef would come out to look over the menu with us. We really didn't expect that, and were happy and surprised!
Sure enough, when we checked in, we didn't even have to ask. Patty at the front desk said Chef would be out shortly, and he was! He went over the menu with my mom and made several substitutions.
We were really amazed. You rarely find that kind of caring and service anymore.
Needless to say, the dinner was divine. In fact, we ate lunch and breakfast in the dining room as well, and it was all good.
We also want to say, we appreciated all of the staff, and we want to give a special shout out to Amy in the dining room. She was the first person we met in addition to the front desk staff, and she made us feel immediately comfortable.
The inn is beautiful, an amazing setting. Very clean, nice trails, beautiful lake and parkland all around. A true peaceful getaway.
We had stayed at the lodge on the hill down the road before. We decided we love the Freestone best, and are looking forward to our next visit!
Beautiful inn, amazing friendly staff who go out of their way for guests,
great food.
We highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

No words can begin to describe the amazing food and experience you may encounter at this wonderful hidden secret at the end of the road. I fully recommend everyone I know to take a break from routine activities and spoil yourselves in this delightful rustic and luxurious lodging/restaurant.

We were looking for a place to get a pint and some food before heading over the pass. Mazama is a very small town so I was concerned we would be out of luck until we found the Freestone. Brandy and Sue served up a pitcher of some great IPA with an amazing salad. We shared the beer with another couple who were there who in turn gave us some of their pizza. The food was delicious, the ambiance was very comfortable, and the service was great...this place is a hidden gem! We did not spend the night, but the pool area looked very nice and the property is very well maintained. Oh, and really cold beer in frosty mugs...why don't more places understand how nice that is. Easily a 5 star in my opinion.

Hats off to their chef! Amazing food, we love everything we ordered!!! Their ratatouille is super delicious, service was amazing. My little ones love the sausage and kale soup - I wish they were in Seattle, so I can go there more often!

Had a very good breakfast today. The waiter was very pleasant and willing to ask the cook about accommodating my food allergies (a constant irritation to restaurants). Wonderful atmosphere; love the log building.
If I have a criticism it's that the breakfast menu isn't just a bit more varied. And they need to server corned-beef hash!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
